St. Louis County VINE Coverage
Minnesota VINE through VINELink receives custody data from Minnesota county jails and detention facilities. For St. Louis County, that makes VINE an alert and status channel for a participating county-jail booking. The state fact sheet describes the service as free, anonymous, and available around the clock. It can be reached online or by calling 1-877-664-8463.
Coverage stops at an important boundary. Minnesota VINE does not receive prison custody data from the Minnesota Department of Corrections. A person at the St. Louis County Jail, Hibbing Lockup, or Virginia Lockup belongs in the county-jail path. A person committed to the Commissioner and held in a state prison belongs in the MN DOC Public Viewer and Minnesota Haven notification path. Federal Prison Camp Duluth belongs in the Bureau of Prisons system. ICE custody has its own locator.
VINE is also booking-specific. A person who has several custody events can have more than one record. Select the matching facility and identifier instead of assuming that the first name match is current.

Search a St. Louis County Inmate
A specific-person search should begin with enough information to separate similar names. Full or partial names and a facility ID can be used where the interface offers them. The county, facility, booking ID, and custody status must fit the person being checked.
- Open VINELink and select Minnesota as the state.
- Enter the person's full or partial name, or a facility ID when known. Avoid narrowing so much that a spelling variation hides the record.
- Compare all returned records. Match St. Louis County or the named facility, then check identity details and the facility ID.
- Open the matching booking. Read the current custody status and any event information shown rather than relying on a search-grid label alone.
- For a released result, cross-check the Sheriff's actual Released Date or request the booking and release record for durable proof.

St. Louis County VINE Results
A VINELink record presents operational custody information sent by the participating agency. It may show a current status or an event, but the interface should not be forced into a label that is not displayed. The state materials say scheduled-release information can appear when the agency supplies it. For a past event, the Sheriff record remains the better historical source.

St. Louis County's Sheriff release PDF is updated on an hourly cycle and carries a Released Date. Minnesota VINE data commonly arrive every 15 or 30 minutes. The systems can therefore update at different moments without either being an archive of the other.
Register St. Louis County Release Alerts
Notification registration begins from the matching person and booking. The service offers phone, email, text, or in-app channels as available. An account is optional, and the state fact sheet says a registrant name is not required. A PIN is essential for phone alerts because it confirms receipt and lets the registration be changed or canceled.
- Open the verified St. Louis County booking and select the notification option.
- Choose the offered delivery method, such as phone, email, text, or an in-app alert.
- Enter the destination carefully. A wrong digit or address can prevent delivery.
- Create a PIN that can be recalled when the automated call arrives.

Phone calls repeat every 30 minutes for up to 24 hours until the correct PIN confirms them. If a call is answered but not confirmed, the fact sheet says it repeats every two hours. Voicemail does not stop later calls. Text, email, and in-app channels normally send one alert for an event.
Note: Keep registration details private; the PIN controls acknowledgement, later changes, and cancellation of a phone notification.
St. Louis County Alert Timing
Minnesota VINE recognizes several event classes. These can include general release, court-order release, bond release, escape, and record purge. A record purge notice does not by itself establish a community release. Likewise, the end of one county booking can coincide with a transfer to another authority.
The state fact sheet explains that transfer alerts are delayed eight hours and death alerts twelve hours. Those rules help account for a mismatch between a Sheriff's hourly PDF and the time a VINE message arrives. Feed lag can also occur before an event reaches VINELink. A missing message should never be treated as proof that no custody change occurred.
A just-booked person may also be absent from the county roster until assigned a booking number. Search again after the agency has processed the booking, then call the jail if current status remains unclear.
St. Louis County Phone Release Alerts
The telephone channel is useful when internet access is limited. Minnesota VINE can be reached at 1-877-664-8463. Search details still must point to the correct person and county booking. A caller should have the name, facility, and facility ID when possible, then listen for the current status and offered notification choices.
Registration remains anonymous under the state fact sheet, and a VINELink account is optional. The phone number that receives the call does not become proof of identity or release. It is simply the delivery destination for the selected booking's event notices. Keep the PIN available because an automated call continues until the correct PIN acknowledges it or the repeat period ends.
A phone notice can name a general release, bond release, court-order release, transfer, escape, or record purge event as supplied by the agency. Those labels carry different meanings. A transfer means custody changed hands. Record purge is a system event. Neither should be described as freedom without a Sheriff Released Date or receiving-agency confirmation.
For a person who cannot be found through the online search, the phone service is a second access channel rather than proof that no record exists. Recheck spelling, try a partial name, confirm the facility, and call the St. Louis County Jail at 218-726-2345 for current operational status. Historical proof should go through Sheriff Central Records.
St. Louis County Prison Notices
For state-prison custody, use Minnesota Haven through DOC Victim Assistance rather than Minnesota VINE. The service line is 1-800-657-3830. The MN DOC Public Viewer is the public status source for adults still under the Commissioner's jurisdiction, including people who left prison but remain supervised.
That state record differs from a county booking. It can show prison or supervision status, sentence information, release details, and an agent or office when public. It may stop returning a person after final discharge from DOC jurisdiction. The court case and a DOC data request then become the historical routes.
A county-jail-only release will usually not appear in the Public Viewer. Conversely, a former state prisoner living under supervision in St. Louis County can appear there even when the county 48-hour release PDF never showed the prison discharge.
The DOC notification directory also separates the Public Registrant Search, Minnesota Haven, VINE, BOP, ICE, and the MSOP notice route. These are not alternate names for one database. Select the channel from the authority that holds the person, then use the court or agency record if a past release must be documented.
Confirm St. Louis County Release Status
Choose the record that matches the event. The official St. Louis County 48-hour Release Roster shows a Released Date for the Sheriff booking. Federal custody requires the BOP locator or the federal docket. ICE custody requires the ICE locator. Minnesota VINE cannot disprove custody in those systems, and a county-jail transfer can place a person outside the original feed.
For a custody event older than the Sheriff's rolling online report, identify the existing record with the full name, date of birth when known, jail number, and approximate booking and release dates. Ask Central Records for the date, time, and legal basis of release or transfer, plus the receiving agency when custody changed hands. Those fields resolve the ambiguity that an alert alone cannot.
A court order can explain the legal basis, while the jail record establishes the operational event. Keep both when the distinction between bond, court release, sentence completion, and transfer matters.
